Endowed Scholarships

Social work has two endowed scholarships for pre-majors and majors. These are awarded each year in the spring for the following fall/spring.

  • Vernice Monroe Scholarship (established in 2003)

    The Vernice Monroe Scholarship in Social Work was established by former Social Work Program Director, Vernice Monroe. Eligibility: The scholarship is open to Junior or Senior level students pursuing a degree in Social Work. The recipient must be a full-time student and must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

  • Archie Land Good Heart Scholarship (established in 2009)

    Archie Land, Jr. established the Archie Land Good Heart Scholarship out of the estate of his brother, who was also named Archie Land, Jr. Eligibility: The scholarship is open to senior level students pursuing a degree in Social Work. The recipient must be a full-time student and must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The recipient must also demonstrate a history of volunteer work.

 General Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must apply for these scholarships to be considered.
  • Students must copy their main financial aid award page from Banner documenting all sources of financial assistance by Lamar Go to Banner Self Serve Financial Aid.
  • Scholarship students are invited and expected to attend the scholarship dinner each spring hosted by Lamar University.

Paid Stipends

The Title IV‑E program at 51勛圖Prois part of the Child Welfare Education Project (CWEP), a federally funded initiative that partners universities with public child welfare agencies to train and support professionals in the field. The Title IV-E program provides selected senior level BSW students with paid stipends (5,000) with 51勛圖ProFamily Care Network (TFCN) through the 51勛圖ProDepartment of Family and Protective Services. Students must apply for the program during the SOWK 4300 Field Preparation course and complete an interview with TDFPS/TFCN staff. If chosen for the program, students complete their 400-hour block field practicum with TFCN.
