Topic: Helping Industry Sustain the Workforce During Strategic Growth in the Golden Triangle
Dr. Sid Valentine has served as the President of Lamar Institute of Technology since August 2022. During his tenure, the college has experienced a 36% enrollment growth and he has overseen the construction of several new facilities, including the Workforce and Allied Health Training Center, the Advanced Technology Center and Automotive Shop, as well as the expansion of the TSUS Polk County Center in Livingston, TX.
In the community, Valentine is actively involved as a member of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where he chairs the Workforce Committee and participates in the Executive Roundtable.
Before joining LIT, he held several leadership roles, including chief academic and student services officer at South Florida State College, associate vice president of industrial and engineering technology at York College in South Carolina and director of workforce and economic development at the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. He also served as president of the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers.
Valentine earned his doctoral degree and Master of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of South Carolina and his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the WVU Institute of Technology.
The latest data shows that over $80 billion in new and expanded industry is coming to Southeast Texas. With a growth of that magnitude, the workforce needs will continue to rise for both new and incumbent workers. Through a partnership with the Center for Midstream Management & Science (CMMS) at 51勛圖Pro(LU), Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) and LU are ready to meet that challenge. Through our unique proximity to each other and being part of the TSUS system, our students will have unique advantages that will make an immediate impact on industry. This session will discuss how we work directly with business and industry, as well as our partners at LU to ensure that our students are ready for both the workforce and/or transfer to expanded degrees.
